Samantha hesitated on her first step into the quicksand. “Maybe this was not such a good idea after all. Are you sure this is safe?” she asked Tara. Tara nodded with confidence. Sam took a deep breath and went in.

Even though her feet had only barely sunken past the ankles, she already had trouble lifting them up. After some tugging one foot came free, but the other had sunken to the knee. She struggled to maintain her balance while her legs disappeared into the soft sand. Then she tried to move on but her legs had become firmly encased and the quicksand was busy consuming her butt and her waist. Samantha made a few more half-hearted attempts to get unstuck, but eventually resigned.
