Sinktember Challenge: Sandra. And something more.

Tara sometimes likes to tell about past quicksand adventures with Sandra, who almost always seems to be the one to do to the rescueing. So I had high expectations for this girl’s attempt to cross our little pit.

Sandra in the Little Pit of Doom

She tried to run across quickly. Her attempt reminded me of my own. She reached the center but then sank past her knees and movement became difficult. Even so she dragged her legs up from the clinging quicksand two more times before she came to a halt. Then she tried to turn and twiste like Ronda had done two days earlier, but she only managed to loosen up the quicksand and make herself go down more rapidly. Sandra tried various other techniques while the quicksand consumed her torso, then reached her chest. The other edge stayed outside her reach, but the girl kept trying until she sank to her shoulders. Finally she admitted defeat.

On an unrelated side-note, today is an important holiday. Two actually. It is Quicksand Day and Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day. So I had to decide which one the Quicksand Clock should show, and I went with the pirate theme. It is not because I consider this holiday more important, but simply because, looking at the clock, every day looks like Quicksand Day. I find it hard to come up with an idea that would make it look distinctly more quicksand-y today than on any other day. And I am not going to do something as blatant as putting a banner there that names the holiday.
