I felt especially honored when Lara decided to sign up. The well-known adventurer and archaelogist did not strike me as someone who would participate in this sort of event. Maybe she saw this as an opportunity for a special survival exercise.
Lara in the Little Pit of Doom
I think Lara must have had her share of quicksand encounters, so I was quite curious about how she would do in this challenge. And she did quite well on those first few steps. Even though the suction must have been quite strong, when she sank to her shins, she kept going. Only when it reached her knees, was she forced to slow down and help with her hands. But then she got stuck and despite her impressive muscles at play, she was sinking quicker than her leg was coming up. When the quicksand was at her waist, she leaned forward in an effort to reach the edge, but fell short. Lara kept struggling, but only mired herself deeper and was eventually forced to resign.
Later she told me, that she should have gone for the edge sooner. But she had thought she could make it without getting herself muddy all over. I guess that is the price for trying to make it look easy when it is not.
