This being the first time that TGS is hosting a Sinktember event, I did not want to pass on the opportunity to open it myself. When I approached the pit my first thought was that it does not look that difficult to make it across. But I did not get the details on what my team had created here beforehand. This pit was prepared by TGS staff and the sand mixture is a creation of our R&D team. I only overheard Burt call it their “Little Pit of Doom”. To me it looked almost like regular quicksand, maybe with a slight greenish tint. And so I figured it would behave similarily to that or to cornstarch. I should be able to run across quickly. As long as I do not stop I would not get trapped.

I was very wrong. My feet broke the surface with little resistance. Within mere moments I had sunking to my thighs. As I slowed it became harder and harder to move. At the same time I was getting deeper. I struggled for a while and the quicksand rose up my torso. When my chest was under I finally resigned and Tara threw me a rope to help me get out. Otherwise I would have certainly submerged completely as there was no chance of escaping anymore. Having experienced it first hand, I can confirm that the name nickname for this pit is quite befitting. It felt like I did not even stand a chance from the moment I stepped. Like I was doomed from the start.
